Race Tip

Plenty of interesting hurdling debutants and VAUBAN gets the vote for the champion trainer. The son of smart miler Galiway won twice over middle distances on soft ground in France. Pied Piper, bred and formerly owned by the Queen, scored twice on heavy ground for John Gosden including a decisive victory in a Leicester handicap in October. He goes without the blinkers worn then but has to enter calculations given the rating he achieved on the level. Max Mayhem landed a premier handicap at the Curragh on Irish Champions Weekend but faded out of contention on hurdling debut in a Grade 3 at Fairyhouse. He'll be better for that experience and is likely to be a lot more competitive this time.
