This six-year-old gelding was far from outclassed when sixth in a Grade A chase at the Punchestown Festival and reappeared a month later at the same track to land a handicap chase, in which he travelled notably well. He won a beginners' chase over course and distance last September. His stablemate Raya Time fell at the first in a Grade B handicap chase at Killarney but had been in good form prior to that. Star Max keeps banking cheques, with a victory and six places from his last seven races over fences. He has a lovely light weight with Shane Fitzgerald taking 7lb off his back.
