Race Tip

DALTON HIGHWAY comes here off the back of a win on Irish Derby weekend at the Curragh and can gain a second success over hurdles. Five times a winner on the level, Dermot Weld's good servant is a lot less exposed in this sphere and Jack Kennedy won on him at Leopardstown's Christmas meeting in 2019. His most recent hurdles start saw him finish a creditable fourth over a bit further in March, and he's twice been runner-up on the Flat at previous Galway Festivals. Top-weight Guiri had Fortune Street back in third when an emphatic winner at Punchestown in April and, having won after four months off on that occasion, his lack of a recent run is less of a concern than a 10lb higher mark. Klassy Kay and dual Tramore winner Molly Wedger are others that have risen sharply in the weights, and the four-year-old Merry Poppins, who narrowly failed to catch the useful Pure Bliss over a furlong shorter at Punchestown in the spring, may have more scope for improvement if none the worse for her recent
